1 I need to patch repair my concrete floor. What’s the quickest product you can offer?

Monoset. It is hard enough after 1 hour to drive a car, lorry, fork truck or even an aeroplane over it.

2 I am laying a 75mm screed which I then need to cover with vinyl. I normally have to wait 1 day per mm for the screed to dry out enough before I can lay the vinyl but I don't have 75 days (11 weeks!) to wait; I must lay the vinyl next week. Can you help?

Yes. Use Uniscreed FastDry mixed with sand and water (1:3 by volume) to lay your screed. Mix and lay the screed, measure with a Hygrometer after 2 or 3 days and the Relative Humidity should be low enough (<75%) to lay vinyl.

3 Do you guarantee your products?

Yes, we have two types of guarantee. The first states that the material will perform as stated in the product technical data sheets and we will guarantee performance in service depending on the application and the demands placed on the product. The second is an Insurance Backed Guarantee lasting up to 10 years, renewable in the 10th year for a further period, for the payment of a premium. For details and policy information email guarantees@ronacrete.co.uk.

4 Why do you insist on forced action mixers for your products?

Conventional tumble or free-fall “concrete mixers” are not suitable for sticky mortars or resins. Using the wrong mixer results in a poorly mixed mortar which will not perform properly. Using the correct mixer will ensure complete mixing and even dispersion of the mix components and help achieve the specified performance.

5 Why must I stop working when temperatures are low?

Mortars, concretes and grouts/bond coats based on Portland cement mortars (“OPC”) stop working when temperatures reach 4 degrees Centigrade and below. The chemical reaction of hydration slows or stops. Therefore work must either stop, proceed when temperatures rise above 4°C or switch to Ronascreed or Monoset which function down to 0°C and –10°C respectively.

6 Can I lay a damp proof membrane then a 15mm screed?

A screed as thin as 15mm must be laid bonded, otherwise it will curl, crack and fail under load. Conventional dpm’s don’t allow bonded screeds to be laid on top, but our Monoprufe system will allow it. Procedure is to mechanically prepare the substrate, lay 2 coats of Monoprufe and lay your thin bonded screed on to the wet Monoprufe. For the screed use Ronafix, Ronascreed or Uniscreed FastDry depending on speed of curing, drying and strength gain (2 days, 1 day, 2 days).

7 I’ve heard about the Disability Discrimination Act and know that I have to provide a safer entrance ramp to our premises. I’m told that if I fail to do this I could face legal action. Can Ronacrete help?

Yes we can. Ronadeck Fast Grip will allow you to quickly achieve a slip resistant decorative surface on your concrete, metal or timber ramp and achieve a colour or texture finish in a range of attractive colours (and incorporate your company logo if you wish). The new surface can be used within 2 hours of application minimising disruption to users. Our range of screeds and repair mortars can also be used to re-level or patch damaged ramps.

8 The walls of my concrete building are letting water in and in time may suffer cracking and spalling. I know I can protect it with an anti-carbonation coating but I don’t want to lose the natural appearance of the concrete. What can I do?

You are correct that a highly elastomeric coating can be applied and also that they will hide whatever is behind, causing you to lose what you want to keep on show. The answer is to use Joltec Transparent, a transparent waterproof elastomeric paint applied coating which will stretch and recover over moving cracks and stop the water (and carbon dioxide) getting in, thus protecting your building.

9 Do you have a versatile product which I can use for lots of different applications? I don’t like having to buy different materials each time I have a repair, a screed, a bit of bonding to do.

Ronafix is what you want. Technically a single part carboxylated styrene butadiene co-polymer aqueous dispersion for use within cement mortars and cement bond coats. Practically a very versatile admixture for screeds, concrete repair, render, patching and bonding mortars and for high strength bonding primers and slurries

13 Some of your products have BBA Certificates. What is a BBA Certificate and how do I benefit?

Ronafix has been awarded 4 BBA Certificates, Ronabond has 2. The British Board of Agrément is an organisation partnered with Government. The Agrément Certificates have been providing authoritative and independent information on the performance of building products for over 35 years. Every Agrément Certificate contains important data on durability, installation and compliance with Building Regulations. Assessment involves three distinct areas - laboratory testing, site inspections, and factory production control. They provide specifiers, users and clients with added confidence in the performance of the product and its long term durability.

14 Can your products be used in conjunction with underfloor heating?

Yes they can. Our screed products Ronafix and Uniscreed are very frequently laid over all types of underfloor heating systems with tremendous success. Typically screeds can be as thin as 38mm, thinner if bonded. Please contact our Technical Department - telephone 01279 638 700 - for more information.
