Now you see it - and now you do
When Plymouth City Council decided that their 1960’s built Civic Centre needed re-vamping, Ronacrete’s RonaBond Joltec Transparent was the answer. The pre-cast concrete panels to the front and rear elevations of the building are under continuous attack from sea breezes and salt spray. As a result, some of the stones in the cladding had become loose and were falling out.
The 13 storey, 180ft high building in a prime city centre location in Plymouth, some 600 metres from the Hoe foreshore, had begun to look worn and battered as the front concrete panels had been eaten away by the damp salty atmosphere. To protect the concrete yet retain its original appearance RonaBond Joltec Transparent was applied. Supplied as a single component coating it is designed to protect from ingress of moisture and harmful gases. Unlike other coatings in the range RonaBond Joltec Transparent is clear and non-pigmented, thus allowing the original surface appearance and colour to be retained.
RonaBond Joltec Transparent is believed to be the only coating of its type; a clear, elastomeric, waterproof and CO2 resistant coating offering live crack movement accommodation and crack bridging to 1mm. The support of a 10 year independently back insurance warranty is also available.
John Williams of Plymouth City Council said that Ronacrete’s RonaBond Joltec Transparent has been specified following exhaustive research into the many various coatings available. “The coating system has enhanced the appearance of the building, and should provide protection to the panels for several years. We are very happy with the results”.
