One of the Guide Dogs for the Blind’s main initiatives, Dogs For The Disabled (DFD), is proving so successful that it has had to move to bigger premises.

The registered charity relocated to an Old Vicarage in a small village on the outskirts of Coventry on January 25, and Ronacrete was heavily involved in refurbishing the new premises.

Ronacrete worked closely with Huddersfield architect Abbey Hanson Rowe and Warwick contractor Crosbee and Atkins.  The concrete kennel runs had to be repaired, and the floor in the basement made waterproof so the area could be converted into a boiler room.

Ronacretes Ronafix site batched mortars are used for a range of applications including floors, concrete repair, bonding and waterproofing.  Ronafix mix E was specified for the basement, while Ronafix mix B floor topping was applied to the dog runs within each of the three kennel blocks.

Ronafix has been used in dog kennel areas for many years because it is waterproof, resistant to urine and easy to clean.  The surface finish provided by a Ronafix floor also serves to keep the dogs claws short and healthy.

DFD was set up in 1986 to train specially selected dogs to carry out a range of practical tasks to assist disabled people, such as opening and closing doors, activating switches and collecting household items.
