Speedy bedding for traffic calming
So called “traffic-calming” humps are enjoying a surge of popularity among local authorities, in spite of objections from emergency services such as the Fire Brigade and ambulances. One company, Formpave of Gloucestershire, who design and manufacture the specially shaped blocks used for the humps, now specify Ronacrete’s Ronafix as the bedding mortar essential for secure installation and long-term performance, Ronafix modified bedding mixes will monolithically bond the blocks to existing asphalt and other surface without the need to dig out, prepare foundations and lay base concrete.
The material is also waterproof, helping it to last many years longer than ordinary mixes. On site, a Ronafix/cement primer is applied to the road surface and a 10-20mm thick layer of Ronafix mortar is put down. The same primer is applied to the blocks which are then bedded into the wet mortar, tamped down and allowed to cure for a few days.
Ronacrete’s rapid set mortars are also used to bed blocks when there is insufficient time for traditional cement mortars to gain strength.
